The Unthinkable is Always Allowed

For quite some time the world has been kept abreast of Iran's dream of building and possessing a nuclear arsenal. We have repeatedly been supplied with time lines and timetables of their progress such as "within the next decade", or "within a few years", or the latest, "perhaps just months away." Is there really any doubt left, with the exception of the Obama White House, that Iran has the deadliest of intentions and are not just spinning centrifuges for the peaceful purpose of nuclear power? This is a country run by fanatics like al Qaeda and the Taliban who refute modernity at any price. Actually I think President Obama does believe Iran's true intent, he's just afraid to do anything about it.

So have others, and for quite some time. Think about it. Nazis, the Khmer Rouge, Darfur, communism, as well as countless other governments, have all been responsible for horrendous murder and mayhem yet all were allowed to happen. Someone, somewhere, is always keenly aware, all the while aiding and abetting all that transpires. We do it, they do it, we all do it, but why? Money. Filthy lucre. The root of all evil. No, I am not Michael Moore or agree that capitalism should be done away with. On the contrary. But there should be more interest paid and pressure applied to folks who profit from misguided and dangerous despots.

But I don't want this post to be about greed or trying to kill what a man does for a living. There will be plenty of that under cap and trade. No, I am interested in a world populated with an abundance of sound minds and good judgment that somehow cannot find the collective will to end nonsense when and where they see it. Rather than stand by flailing our fists at Iran and threatening sanctions for the next few months, or until a nuclear bomb goes off on Israel, lets destroy those factories now. Let's warn the people in cities like Qom, where the latest installation has been discovered, to go visit their relatives for a few days. Then we turn the lights out and every participating country with an airplane fly over and drop a bomb on these facilities. Israel can supply us all with the targets. End of threat. At least from Iran. Then let's see how eager some other idiot wishes to defy our new found strength and resolve.

Spoiler Alert! Chicago to Get 2016 Olympics

With President Obama on the ropes over his designs to fix healthcare, the climate, geopolitics, or anything else he touches, his trip to Copenhagen to personally lobby for Chicago's bid is a clear sign that the committee has already chosen Chicago as the site for the 2016 games. The risk to his presidency and his ego would be too great if there were still a chance that the games might be played somewhere else.

The Olympic Committee has to be thrilled that Obama has already stepped on their applause line with the greatest of tells; a presidential trip.

Obama In The Booster Seat

Children under 8 years old, or shorter than 4'9", are required to use a booster seat properly secured in the back seat while traveling in any vehicle. It's safe, secure, and physically impossible to markedly influence any adult decision making going on in the front seat. If Obama's U.N. speech wasn't evidence enough that the United States going forward wishes to concede its superpower status, it was made clear today from the three statements made by President Obama, President Sarkozy, and Prime Minister Brown regarding Iran's secret nuclear program. For the next four years at least, the U.S. will no longer be interested in occupying the driver's seat or even riding shotgun in protecting the world from evil despots or rogue countries.

Neighborhood Bully

President Obama must not be a fan of Bob Dylan or he might have otherwise avoided throwing Israel under the bus in his speech to the U.N. today. I have never heard an American president speak so callously of a potentially endangered ally and at the same time so eager to please the Muslim world than was on display in New York this afternoon. After dressing down Israel for their continued "occupation" and expansion of the West Bank, the President conceded that efforts to quash Palestinian "incitement against Israel" has been less than successful and continues to hamper a two-state solution. Nevertheless, after we have secured peace between Palestine and Israel, the President went on to explain that "we will also pursue peace between Israel and Lebanon, Israel and Syria, and a broader peace between Israel and its many neighbors." With that lineup of democratic all-stars waiting on deck, and other Arab leaders systemically calling to wipe Israel off the map, it seems implausible then that Israel should be cast as the troublemaker.

The Left's Incessant Obsession

Why is it that those on the left, amplified by the media, are so obsessed with who leads the Republican Party? Why do they constantly complain that there is no one leader speaking for the Republicans? With all that is going on in this country and around the world, why is this uppermost on their minds? Because if there were one, that would be all they would talk about.

Let's leave for a moment the fact that Michael Steele is the chairman of the National Republican Committee and therefore the leader of the Republican Party. While he may not be a contender for the presidency in 2012, he is the titular head of the GOP. But the left can't attack him, he's black. If they did attack him they would be racists too. Even though by law, the left cannot be racists. In any event, the left really don't believe that Michael Steele is actually in charge any more than Governor Paterson is of New York.

No, the left needs a bogeyman to divert the attention away from President Obama and his feckless administration. They desperately need someone to help shout down people like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. They need another version of their creation, John McCain circa 2000. What they do not realize however, what they have never managed to comprehend or to penetrate their thick progressive skulls, is the fact that Glenn Beck, the Tea Party movement, and this summers' town hall participants, are not a product of the Republican Party. They are all grassroots, organic, and uncontrollable! And, believe me, if the Republican Party were in charge of any of this it wouldn't be as successful.

They Still Don't Get It (cont..) or News You Can't Use

I spent this past weekend at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Like many resorts, the Grand Hotel prints a daily synopsis of news for guests on the go. This past Sunday the following stories were taken from their New York Times Digest:

1) In California, a federal judge continues a fight with the federal government over a certain species of salmon. Each president since Bill Clinton has fought against excessive costs associated with excessive accommodations to prevent the supposed elimination of a species of salmon. President Obama's latest offer to spend $100 million apparently isn't enough.

2) This coming week, leaders from around the globe will converge on New York and the United Nations. On the agenda is global warming and collective efforts to eradicate our carbon footprint. But too many countries are being "selfish" by not agreeing to adopt jobs killing policies like cap and trade like we are.

3) Despite all the worlds leaders' adoration and respect for Barack Obama, and their constant clamoring for a meeting or an audience with him, our new president's foreign policies are "surprisingly" not having the effect of reversing or helping to ameliorate the bad feelings left by George Bush.

You can't make this stuff up. The slobbering and sycophantic obsession with President Obama or anything "progressive", is the signature of the "Gray Lady." And people wonder why we are marching in the streets.

Speaking of Healthcare Reform...

The American people should not support any healthcare reform, or any law for that matter, that excludes Congress or any elected official from its mandates, period. If they vote for it, they must live with it too. That should be the new mantra for America.

There He Goes Again

Former president Jimmy Carter insists on letting us know what he thinks even when we are decades beyond giving a damn about his thoughts or views on anything. Now we are being told by him that an "overwhelming portion" of those who demonstrate against the president's policies do so only because he is black. As I stated in an earlier post, the left simply cannot comprehend why anyone should, could, or would be opposed to anything that President Obama is for. It must be racism. It has to be racism. Were the American people prejudiced against former El Camino owners when they opposed Bill Clinton's healthcare reforms in 1993?

What intrigues me more about this story is that some in the media are suggesting that this may not be helpful to Obama. Hell, I'll bet you dollars to donuts that the White House requested this assist from Carter. When you cannot win your arguments on merit alone, cry foul. Cry racism.

ObamaMan in the Mirror

Dracula and other vampires are supposedly unable to see their images reflected in a mirror. Why this is so I'm not quite sure, maybe it's because they are purported to have no souls. Which may explain why President Obama and his followers on the left, well known blood letters where taxes and spending are concerned, are incapable of understanding what's really going on in America today.

The angst and energy on display throughout the summer, demonstrated in town hall meetings, tea party rallies, and marches on the lawn and steps of our nation's capitol, are not because we have a black president or that we're just too ignorant to know what's good for us. No, the reason so many of us have been and continue to be frustrated with Obama's Washington is that we are fed up with runaway spending, ill-conceived plans and self-serving politicians. We're tired of policies that are trotted out and propped up as mainstream when they are clearly the views held only by a minority of our populace. Cap and trade, card check, and the public option in ObamaCare are the most glaring of these. Nevertheless, Obama and his minions remain dumbfounded that they must repeatedly make the same arguments over and over again to a recalcitrant mob. Different day, different location, same speech.

By not acknowledging a large and vociferous dissent from main street America as the primary reason for his joint speech to Congress, the president risks further alienating himself which will push him further down a path that will ultimately prove perilous to him and his party. Misreading the tea leaves of what keeps a democracy alive and flourishing may be unimaginable to one as brilliant and farsighted as Obama, but he'll need a pair of drugstore cheaters to read between the lines.

Thanks Mr. President, Now I'm Convinced

He's a great salesman, that Barack Obama. Gifted, charming, intelligent, and so in charge. Yes, after 29, or is it 30, speeches on the topic of healthcare reform, President Obama has finally sold me. He has convinced me that he is a full-throated liar and his pants are on fire. Rep. Wilson was right when he blurted this out in the presidents speech last night however in cordial.

When the president looks you straight in the eyes and tells you that illegal immigrants will not be covered under ObamaCare, he is lying. It is at least a fib, and he knows it. Unless he really cannot tell the difference between not asking if you are here illegally before you receive services or explicitly covering them in the bill. This is the healthcare equivalent of 'Don't ask, don't tell."

We must also suspend reality when we are asked to believe that this plan will not add "one dime to our deficits, either now or in the future." BS. Only he and his cronies in the White House believe this to be true. The Congressional Budget Office has determined it will add at least $230 billion over ten years. And the waste and fraud he hopes to eliminate to help pay for all of this? Forget about it. Ain't gonna happen. But if they do come up short on "savings" he's going to come back and make more cuts. He promised. This is the same man who promised us more transparency, no more earmarks, and no lobbyists in his White House (just tax cheats).

He does admit that "there remain some significant details to be ironed out", but let's not quibble over small ball when we can pass legislation that will solidify the president and Ted Kennedy's legacies. Unfortunately for President Obama, it has been the details that have disrupted his attempted end around the American people. He never imagined that someone, let alone thousands, would read the fine print in 1,000 plus pages of legislation already passed in the House of Representatives. It is in the details where we uncover the hidden gems of universal coverage, taxpayer funded abortions, and end-of-life counseling.

And by the way, Mr. President, if your healthcare plans are so necessary and so urgent, why then does this all not start until 2013? Transparency indeed.

Shut 'er Down

When asked what I think if the budget impasse in Lansing cannot be fixed by midnight on September 30, I say shut 'er down! Do we really care if the DEQ is operational on the following Thursday morning? Or how about DLEG, or MEDC, or the DNR? Really? The only thing we can be sure of when our state capitol is open is that there will be any number of folk working on either regulating us more or devising new ways to tax us. I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that, given the current political climate, a majority of conservative and independent voters would prefer you all take a collective break and leave us alone. Let's extend the August break a little longer. When you are not there we are not getting screwed!

Moving Target

Watching MSNBC this morning we were reminded by Harold Ford Jr. that despite our ongoing efforts in Afghanistan against the Taliban and Al Qaeda, the real problem remains in Pakistan. When Iraq was the focus during GWB, we were told by Obama that Afghanistan was where the real fight should be. Unfortunately, all are wrong. Since most of the original 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, that is where our focus should have been initially addressed as well as currently.

For my money Saudi Arabia and Wahabism are the real culprits behind Islamic fundamentalists. Born in Saudi Arabia, and the sect behind the power of the House of Al Saud, Wahabism should be the true enemy of the West and of any modern civilization. Wahabism is the extreme face of the Muslim faith and continues to fuel intolerance for the likes of the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

Why Liberals Make Poor Math Teachers

According to Time.com, Florida is apparently hemorrhaging residents in the same manner and due to some of the same circumstances that has afflicted Michigan for the past eight years. Yes, Michigan is somewhat unique with our large and eroding automobile based economy, but over taxing and over spending have certainly sped up the exodus in recent years. Seems that Floridians are voting with their feet as well.

Not to be outdone however is a newly formed liberal group in Michigan called A Better Future for Michigan. Seems this group, led by the teacher's union, other labor unions, and social service agencies (Democrats) would like to increase taxes in order to raise an additional $3 billion! According to the web article, "the group proposes to increase taxes on business by $600 million, raise $1.65 billion by taxing "luxury items" such as entertainment and recreation (who knew going to the movies was a "luxury?"), and scoop up another $600 million by boosting the state income tax rate on high earners by more than 58% (from 4.35% to 6.9%)."

Understand that this kind of thinking has led almost a half a million residents to leave Michigan already. Guess how many will be left if these geniuses get their way. What is so ridiculous about this and what the left never seem to grasp in these arguments is why should we increase taxes to pay for services for a dwindling number of people? Shouldn't a smaller population cost less to serve than a larger one?

A Credibility Factor

Yesterday, Governor Granholm (D-MI) was in Saginaw along with Gov. Jim Doyle (D-WI) and U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, auto recovery czar Ed Montgomery and David Sandalow, assistant secretary of energy for policy and international affairs. They were in town to promote green jobs, millions of them according to Granholm. This from a woman who guaranteed a few years ago that Michigan would be blown away by the number of jobs created under her economic plans. The last time I looked we have been blown away indeed, back to the bottom of economic growth and prosperity. Thanks again Jennifer. And we are again asked to believe her words?

By the way, Sec. Locke said at this same meeting, that the federal government has stepped up to encourage the growth of alternative energy, such as awarding $1.3 billion to a dozen Michigan companies to produce electric batteries, but the nation needs a comprehensive plan to reap the potential. So let me get this strait. We are spending $1.3 billion on unproven green technologies without a plan? Terrific.

Why Some Don't Trust Republicans Either

This past Monday, I had the pleasure of attending a luncheon at the J. W. Marriott in Grand Rapids (MI) hosted by Richard and Helen DeVos featuring minority leader John Boehner (R-OH). The lunch provided the venue for a fundraiser for the National Republican Campaign Committee or NRCC. The NRCC raises money for Republican congressional candidates. The event was attended by most of Michigan's Republican congressional delegation as well as several wannabees.

During Mr. Boehner's remarks, while speaking about the trouble the President has gotten himself into over health-care reform, he mentioned some things that Republicans could support, like tort reform, purchasing plans across state lines, portability with preexisting conditions, etc. While I agree with those things too, it sickened me that here was a guy saying what he would and could support, but was unable to do when Republicans had the majority.
